July 2023 Newsletter

Posted 1 year ago :: Last edited 1 year ago by oracle_milkman

Hello, Pixels! Welcome to the first Monthly Newsletter! Each month, there will be a newsletter unveiling the Monthly Prompt and any other relevant news. They will all be under the News tab, and a bell icon will be present when there is a new announcement. We hope you look forward to them!

Monthly Prompt

The monthly prompt for July 2023 is Supernatural! You can draw Datakits dressed up as supernatural beings, investigating the supernatural, etc.! This one's a bit broad, so feel free to get creative!

Remember to submit Monthly Prompt pieces to the Monthly Prompt Gallery! Monthly Prompt pieces go for double than usual!

Inventory Transfers

If you have been a member of the species before the site was up, please transfer over your inventory in the inventory-transfers channel in the official Datakits Discord Server if you haven't already! This is so all the Bytes and items you've earned can be transferred to your account!

Art Fight

Art Fight is upon us, and we'd like to restate that drawing Datakits for Art Fight is allowed and encouraged! Redeeming Art Fight attacks in Art Redemption will net you a +50% bonus, as long as you link the attack in the submission! If you'd like, you can share your Art Fight profile in the af2023-profiles channel in the official Datakits Discord Server! Be sure to follow the prompt in the pinned message.

That's all for now! Have fun!

BIG THINGS TO COME

Congratulations on completing the scavenger hunt! We’re sure you must have a lot of questions right now - please be sure to read this post thoroughly, as chances are they will be answered here! Anything that is not answered here or in the on-site FAQ may be directed towards the help channel in server after the formal announcement on Discord.

First and foremost, we must remind you not to share this website with anyone. We will be making a formal announcement in the Datakits server after the event has closed; in the meantime, being here early is your reward for reaching the end of the scavenger hunt!

With that out of the way, we would like to announce that within the next month, we will be moving to this Lorekeeper website!

Lorekeeper is a framework created specifically for running Closed Species. The move will streamline most of the ways in which you engage with the species, making it easier for both you and the staff! This will take some getting used to, so we have decided to allow you all to see the site early in order to familiarise yourselves. Feel free to look around to your heart’s content, but note that you cannot currently register!

Bear in mind that there are a few things we have yet to fully implement; those shall be completed before launch.

To address some things:

  • We have overhauled our trait list in order to reduce the number of redundant traits and adjust a few rarities. A full list of the changes made will be detailed in a future announcement. These trait changes will come into effect with the launch of the site - until then, please continue to use the trait list in the Discord server!
  • Upon site opening, Floppy Disks are being retired as an item, as is the existing trait limit on MYO Datakits. All Floppy Disks will be converted into Bytes. Until then, they will remain in effect.
  • There have been some changes to the staff team that are not currently reflected in server. These, too, will be addressed in a future announcement!
  • Once the site officially opens, you will be required to link either a DeviantArt or Toyhou.se account in order to register. If this is done correctly, your Datakits should automatically be transferred to your account. If for whatever reason this does not happen, we will have a designated channel in which you can let us know and we will manually transfer your Kits to you.
  • The contents of your bank (including both Bytes and items) will be transferred manually to you by a moderator. There will be a designated channel in the Discord server in which you can use to claim them. With it, you will be receiving a decorative award for your site profile to show that you were a member of the species prior to the move.
  • Unused freebie MYOs will be transferred to your account as a Data Bundle - these are functionally identical to the free MYOs we offer all new members. Additionally, every member of the site will be able to claim another free Data Bundle via a button on-site. To be clear, that means that everyone who has been a part of the species since before the site will be receiving a second freebie, on top of the one they got for joining - consider this a thank-you for being with us for so long!
  • After the site opens, all redundant channels will be archived and the server will be slightly reorganised. The Carrd masterlist will remain visible for some time afterwards, and then will also be archived. Archival does not mean deletion; staff will still be able to access everything in case they are needed in the future.
  • We are working on a FAQ and on-site guides in order to teach users how to use the website! These will be completed before launch.
The masterlist will be closing on June 25th in order to give us time to finalise everything for the move. We hope to open the site to the public soon after that.

We have been working hard behind the scenes to bring this to you, and we hope that you’re as excited as we are! We understand that this is a big change, and it will take some getting used to, which is why we have opted to show you all the website early. As stated above, you will be free to ask questions in the Discord server after the site is publicly announced, but be sure to check the FAQ (found in the Quick Links tab at the top of the site) to see if your question will be answered soon!
